Junior Solar Sprint 2006
3nd Annual Cape& Islands Junior Solar Sprint
On Saturday, June 3rd 2006 students, parents, and teachers from across southern Massachusetts enjoyed a day of model solar car racing at Cape Cod Community College. Though forced to move inside and use battery packs, the day was a great success as 20 teams competed in the 3rd Annual Cape and Islands Junior Solar Sprint.
This is the second year that Sietch members have been involved with the JSS.
“I was really impressed with the quality of cars the students brought. Their collective efforts showed through,” said Peregrine Carlson, AmeriCorps volunteer and Junior Solar Sprint Coordinator for this year’s race.
Perry did a wonderful job with the Sprint this year, more than doubling the turn out from last years race, with 20 teams!
Twenty teams of between 2 and 4 students entered the race, with over 100 people showing up for the race. The winners of the speed race are as follows.
1st “Phoenix Flamer” car by Charter Lighthouse School studentsChristopher Knapp and Gary Clinch
2nd “Mike & Mike” car by Cape Cod Tech. Council students Michael Walsh & Michael Splitz
3rd “The Blue Goose” car by Quashnet schools Taylor, Jake, Zak, and Lou.
